Poems for the Children
HAVE YOU WONDERED?
Have you ever stopped to wonder?
Wonder what is on your mind?
Is it often that you ponder?
Strangest things hid there you’ll find.
*****
Think of climbing fragile petals,
Swaying gently to and fro;
Or hanging upside down from walls,
Seeking which way next to go.
*****
Have you wondered, wondered truly
Did you comprehend it fully?
How the evening dusk brings dew?
*****
Lucid ocean reflects the sky;
At sunset it seems to glow.
But do you ever wonder why
Running rivers are not so?
*****
When at times you start to wonder,
Weigh these matters in your mind.
Surely you will find the answer
From those who the truth did find.
*****
Poems of Children’s Interaction
DO YOU HAVE A MOMENT, LORD?
Lord, do you have a moment to spare?
I need a friend to stop a while to hear.
My heart is sad; does mommy really care?
Or does she have more than she can bear?
*****
Father tells me that I’m just a child,
And I must wait to grow up yet a while.
He tried to explain it oh so mild.
I wonder why the world is so vile.
*****
Help me Lord to fully understand.
I’m old enough though I’m not a man
To know that there is wrong upon this land
Telling us Lord without you we can.
*****
But though I try to have my own way,
Like a wandering sheep I go astray.
Help me Lord forever from this day
To follow you where you lead, I pray.

Reflections
MUST I?
Must I… I must… I must not;
My mother will forgive me not.
*****
Before she left to the store
She told me not to go next door.
*****
How I want to go and play
With the kids that moved in today.
*****
I peeked and peeked ‘cross the street
To say hello and friendly greet
*****
The girl and boy, Pam and Jim.
What fun to meet both her and him.
*****
Mother made it oh so clear,
“Give them time to settle in, dear.”
*****
Must I… I must… I must not;
My mother will be proud I’ve not.
GOLDEN RAYS (REFLECTING)
The sun appeared and sprayed the trees
Between the leaves
With golden rays.
And Tommy plays
With Pam and Jim around the base
A game of race
And peek-a-boo
Oh where are you?
Until his mother calls for him.
When lights go dim,
They said goodbye.
And so did I.
*****
At the End of the Day
END OF DAYS
Tom and Jerry
Where are you?
In the garden.
I’ll find you.
*****
Come for supper.
Dad is here.
Playtime’s over.
Come in here.
*****
We’ll have meatballs,
Sauce and dip,
And some veggies.
Time to sip.
*****
Tell a story,
Let us know
To be braver
As we grow.
*****
We are ready
Now to sleep
As the stars
Begin to peep.
*****
Gentle Jesus,
Are you there?
Bless the children
Everywhere
*****
TEACH ME HOW TO LOVE
I love and yet I’m selfish.
I’m partial and unforgiving.
I take revenge, I fuss and fight
With friends and foes alike.
*****
I lack the will to share.
My heart is unyielding,
I praise myself above you, Lord.
Lord, teach me how to love.
